SAHAYA SHARMA
INNER ALCHEMY / LUMINESCENCE (2021)
is Sahaya’s sixth solo exhibition and debut solo exhibition in Mumbai. Through her latest art, she hopes to evoke a sense of devotion, focus, higher energy and luminosity as she turns to the bewildering and transcendental world of Indian scriptures, gemstones and meditation for inspiration. She explores the symbol of a triangle to visually represent these ideas in her new collection.
Queens of the Mineral Kingdom
Sahaya captures the essence behind the queens of the mineral kingdom with Blue Sapphire, Emerald, Ruby and Amethyst. There are 5 kingdoms that exist in nature -The Mineral Kingdom, The Plant Kingdom, The Animal Kingdom, The Human Kingdom and The Angel Kingdom. By exploring The Mineral Kingdom, she pays an ode to the Earth’s crust and its mesmerising inner alchemy. According to a narrative in the Puranas, it is said that each face of Mount Kailash is made of a different Jewel- Crystal, Ruby, Gold and Lapis Lazuli. The north is gold, the south is Lapis Lazuli, the east is crystal and the west is ruby. Mount Kailash (her aspirational yearly pilgrimage) is also a heavy inspiration for the visual compositions behind these paintings.
LUMINISCENCE brings together totems for tomorrow in an encyclopaedia spellbound with mantras of higher energy and love.

12 JYOTIRLINGS // INFINITE PRISMS
The ‘Infinite Prisms’ (made during the second lockdown) are an ode to the 12 Jyotirlings in India and were inspired by Sri Rudram from the Yujrved. With the series, she pays homage to the essence and power of Lord Shiva by taking a devotional route herself.
Jyotirlingas are sacred shrines of Lord Shiva. There are 12 such shrines in India and it is believed that Lord Shiva himself manifested there when devotees were in trouble. Jyotirlinga means ‘column or pillar of light’. The ‘stambha’ represents that there is no beginning or end. When Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu had an argument about who was the supreme god, Lord Shiva appeared as a column of light and asked
each one to find the ends. Neither could do it. It is believed that the places where these columns of light fell is where the jyotirlingas are located.
