SAHAYA SHARMA
“Everything is crumbling.
I hate Pain.
Pain is the genesis of creation.
Creation is rooted in Faith.”
My Grandmother's house is like a mini museum with art and artefacts in every corner. I’ve always admired her attention to detail- be it the temple door installed as a wall accent or the vintage wooden pillar punctuating the living room with a regal finesse. The aesthetics of ancient architecture began to seep into my subconscious at a relatively young age making the aura of ancient forts, temples and ruins feel familiar, enduring and enchanting.
A feeling of nostalgia rang loud within when my family and I visited a restaurant called 1135 AD on
the rooftop of Jaipur’s Amer Fort in the November of 2018. The Smoky Smell of the Tandoor,
Candles in Shamdaanas, Timely whiffs of the uplifting Tuberose amidst Live Sufi Music froze time
and transported us back to the 16th Century. Everything felt grand, comforting, safe, royal and
loyal. There was an immediate need to capture this moment in a more objective sense through
mixed media paintings.
